Last night on my way to class I got a call from Ken saying that our bunny, Zoe, had died. Kaylie went out to feed her and found that she had passed away. I was sad for the kids and the news tugged at my heart strings too. Zoe was our little furry pal.
But what really pulls on my heart strings is my son, Todd.
On my way home from class, Ken, explained that shortly after Todd was sent to bed last night he came down and said after praying about, Zoe, he felt like he should go put food in her cage. Not wanting to squash Toddy's hope, Ken, responded to Todd's request by placing celery and lettuce in Zoe's cage near her body. Then Todd cried and cried in Ken's arms. He so sad that Zoe was dead, but his child-like faith would not let him accept the fact until he tried one last chance for a miracle.
Normally it's difficult to drag Todd from his bed at his 7 o'clock wake up time. This morning he bounded down the stairs at 6:50 and went straight for the back porch. My stomach tightened as I realized his hopes were soon to be dashed as I followed him to Zoe's cage. He turned on the lights and flipped over the blankets, then the realization hit him and the disappointment showed on his face. Zoe was still dead. He throw the blanket back down and dejectedly announced "My plan didn't work".
LONG SIGH....
Why does a child's faith have to be tested in what seems like such a cruel way?
He really believed that giving Zoe food could bring her back to life even though his dad gave him a healthy dose of reality, he had to learn for himself. Lessons are hard sometimes. I wish this exercise in faith had a happier ending, but more importantly I hope Todd never stops having that faith to believe in miracles, or the source for which they come.
SIGH....
Some lessons are just hard to learn.

This story brought tears to my eyes. I lost my first pet last year...after having it for 18 years. I totally agree, this is such a hard lesson of faith, especially for innocent children. Sorry about your bunny.
