Child Proof Cake, YES!

Last night was one of those LOOOOONG nights when you wish it would just finally end so you can stop hoping for the sleep you know you aren't going to get. Time is a bit of a blur, but I think it started with Daric waking up around mid-night. In the process of getting him back to bed Aftyn woke up. Finding no easy solution to getting her back to sleep I gave in and put her in bed with me so that her crying didn't keep Ken awake. She fell asleep just fine, but I did not sleep well with her next to me so a few hours later I put her back in her crib. By 5:00 am Daric was hollering for me to open his door. I quickly jumped up so he didn't wake up the rest of the house and discovered that he had a poopie diaper. Just what I wanted to do at 5am. NOT! After changing Daric's diaper I thought it would be easier to have him get in our bed so he didn't make noise in his room. I am so dumb sometimes. After a half hour of him squirming around and trying to talk to me, I finally told him to go get back in his own bed, a request that he cheerfully complied with. I should have known better! A little while later I heard a noise in the hallway and knew he was playing with something he shouldn't be and again I got up to see what he was doing. After confiscating some keys from his hands I put him back to bed, but not before I noticed that the downstairs kitchen light was on. Oh great I thought, a 2 year old (who's build like a tank) alone, unsupervised in the kitchen is NOT a good combination. But I was too tired to think about it, I figured I'd deal with those consequences later. I went back to bed, but too bad for me 'cause only a few minutes later the alarm clock rang. Daric came back in and crawled in beside me and I decided to ask him what he was doing in the kitchen. He replied, that he had NOT gotten into Todd's "boof-day cake". I actually believed him and felt some sense of relief because he had no evidence of chocolate cake on his face.
Only later did I discover that his lack of chocolate cake was not from lack of trying.

None of those objects were on the counter when I went to bed last night. He tried and tried, but his plan was foiled by a really tight cake lid. Ha, Ha, you mischievous little wanna-be thief, better luck next time. And thank-you Smith's bakery, you now have a loyal birthday cake buying customer.

That Daric cracks me up! He is so very resourceful. I wish I could have seen him trying to get at that cake. He sure didn't give up easily. Please give that little man a squeeze from me and tell him that I miss him.
