Toddy started Kindergarten today! He has been so excited to go to school, I think he got a little nervous when we got there, but he went in like a big boy. He is literally a big boy, I looked at the line of boys and only one boy was taller or maybe the same size. Todd stood a head taller than the boy next to him. But he is an older Kindergartner, he'll be 6 next month.
I was hoping to get him into the all day Kindergarten but they said he didn't have a chance of getting in. So my second best option was the extended day which gives some kids an extra hour before school starts for more one on one help. Each teacher offers an extended day class, but again he didn't qualify. His teacher said he wasn't even close. Toddy is just too darn smart!
It actually amazes me that our little Todd, who has spent almost his whole life in special need classes now can't even qualify for any extra help. I should be so thrilled. I am so proud of him. Last year when we dropped him off for pre-school on his first day his teachers couldn't even understand him. I wanted to stay with him and be his interpreter so he wouldn't get frustrated or even worse teased. But he did so well. Within a few weeks his teachers learned to understand 'Todd' language. Then within a few months he was talking so well that others could understand him. By the end of pre-school it was hard to believe that he had just barely learned to speak. (He's been 'speaking' for a long time, only no one outside of family knew what he was saying.)
He hit every milestone I was hoping for him to be ready for Kindergarten. At the beginning of the year those goals seemed like a pie in the sky dream. But he did it! I was disappointed that he wouldn't get extra help this year, because I wanted every extra boost I could get to make his school years successful, but I am so happy that he tested so well that he doesn't 'need' to be in those special classes.
He will continue to work with his awesome speech therapist two days a week. We are excited for another great year.
He reported a good first day today. Most of our conversation revolved around playing tag at recess and how his friend Patrick is WAY TOO SLOW. I think this will be a good year for him.

Wow! I can't believe Todd is a Kindergartner. That little boy just went and grew up. He looks so grown up too. He is such a sweetie and I'm sure he is going to do great in school.
Hooray! What blessings! It is so neat that Toddy progressed so much last year. It is so amazing and wonderful that those pie in the sky goals were fulfilled! That doesn't happen very often. Wow! Congrats to Todd!
